THE ANU College of Law has one of the largest graduate programs at the Australian National University (ANU). The programs include the Juris Doctor (JD), Diploma and Masters programs, and a range of research degrees. The ANU College of Law introduced the JD in 2008 for graduates of non-law disciplines for admission to legal practice. The JD is a distinctive program with a greater focus on research. A variety of masters and diploma coursework programs are also offered to suit lawyers and non-lawyers in the public and private sectors. Programs for lawyers are designed to develop their expertise for pro- fessional practice. Programs for non-lawyers are designed for those who wish to acquire fam- iliarity with legal issues. How to get the very best from your workers Supportive environment: Goal setting, performance feedback and incentives all contribute to a high work place morale. EFFICIENCY and productivity is crucial in every workplace that faces constant deadlines and expectations. Employees that receive posi- tive feedback and feel involved with decision-making can usual- ly overcome the stress related to this. All too often however, em- ployers fail to acknowledge the hard work of their staff and ignore the basic the needs of their workers. This leaves an unhappy worker who has no motivation in their career path, thus creating an employee with low productivity. Negative employers create a workplace environment that is dreaded by all workers. So, if a positive and friendly workforce improves productivity in wor- kers, why do some employers continue to dictate their sur- roundings? Regardless of this unknown, there are some simple tips that can help improve your workplace morale: Goal setting: Employees love to work towards a goal. Financi- al targets are great in salesman positions. Performance feedback: Em- ployees want to be recognised and feedback is a great way of doing this. Positive feedback for workers should be rewarded. Employee involvement: Em- ployees will not work well on something that they cannot relate to. Be sure to tell them the importance, implications and overall meaning of the task at hand. Support: This may seem basic, but an approachable supervisor will go a long way in creating a more confident worker. Incentives: Financial rewards are obvious, but simple ideas like 'employee of the month' will go a long way to reaching your workers full potential. Peaceful environment: Another simple tip is to relax the vibe of your workplace. Decor- ate the office and allow em- ployees to listen to music. Breaks: Encourage your wor- kers to take regular breaks. This will allow your workers to have energy throughout the day. Also, do not discourage holiday and sick leave.
